Out-of-state private solar developers are pushing lawmakers in Lansing to make major changes to Michigan energy policy that would undermine affordability without advancing our state’s clean energy goals.
The Michigan Legislature is considering HB 4236, legislation that would expand private solar the wrong way, without first ensuring everyone is paying their fair share to support Michigan’s electric grid. If passed, this short-sighted, irresponsible bill would ultimately raise energy costs for every other Michigander and not do much to advance a cleaner energy future for our state.
AMP supports private solar, but we need to do so in a way that works for all Michiganders. If passed, HB 4236 would expand private solar the wrong way, without first ensuring everyone is paying their fair share to support Michigan’s electric grid—ultimately raising energy costs for every other Michigander.
This bill is being pushed by out-of-state private solar developers who want to remove the “cap” on rooftop solar to line their own pockets—and it will hit all other Michiganders on their energy bills.
