Enjoy having the lights come on? Thank a Lineman.

Did you know that Saturday, April 18, was Lineman Appreciation Day?

Few people know that Congress passed a resolution in 2013 “recognizing linemen, the profession of linemen, the contributions of these brave men and women who protect public safety, and expressing support for the designation of April 18, 2013, as National Lineman Appreciation Day.”

Linemen are on the front lines (literally!) of keeping our communities safe and electricity reliable for homes, businesses, and public institutions—no matter what the time of day or the weather.

Linemen (the correct title, but the job includes men and women alike) perform routine maintenance, clear tree branches and brush, and check electricity lines. They also brave bad and even dangerous weather to keep our lights on at night, our heat on in winter, and our fans and ACs going in summer.

If you missed Lineman Appreciation Day on April 18, or simply didn’t get the chance last weekend—be sure to thank a lineman the next time you see one working to keep the power on in your neighborhood!
